Sleep and Insulin Resistance

According to a study to be published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, insulin resistance may follow just one sleepless night. Researchers speculate that it may not be a coincidence that over the past decade, sleep duration has decreased at the same time that there’s been a rise in the prevalence of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Further research is needed to determine whether interventions that promote longer sleep may help stabilize glucose levels in people with diabetes.
