If you have gum disease and type 2 diabetes, there may be an added benefit to getting dental treatment. Researchers at Scotland’s Edinburgh Dental Institute have found that treating periodontitis can have small but beneficial implications for people with type 2 diabetes. Larger randomized trials are needed to further study the relationship between periodontal treatment and blood sugar levels, yet researchers suggest that people with diabetes be advised to seek routine dental care.
