Green Tea May Benefit Smokers

According to a hospital-based, randomized study conducted in Taiwan, the polyphenols in green tea appear to help protect against lung cancer. Study participants included 170 patients with lung cancer and 340 healthy patients as controls. Smokers and nonsmokers who did not drink green tea had a 5.16-fold increased risk of lung cancer compared with those who drank one cup or more of green tea per day. Smokers who didn’t drink green tea had a 12.71-fold increased risk of lung cancer compared with those who drank one or more cups per day.
